What is Business Analysis?

According to PMI (Project Management Institute)

Business analysis is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to:

  • Determine problems and opportunities;
  • Identify business needs and recommend viable solutions to meet those needs and support strategic decision making;
  • Elicit, analyze, specify, communicate, and manage requirements and other product information; and
  • Define benefits and approaches for measuring and realizing value, and analyzing those results.

According to the IIBA (International Institute of Business Analysis)

  • Business Analysis is the practice of enabling change in an organizational context, by defining needs and recommending solutions that deliver value to stakeholders.
  • Business Analysis is a disciplined approach for introducing and managing change to organizations, whether they are for-profit businesses, governments, or non-profits.
  • The Business Analyst is an agent of change.
